A Call for Reviewers (of Memoir)

Book Review picture

My memoir Even Rain Is Just Water is now available for review. And I’m offering a digital copy (epub or mobi) of the ARC (advanced review copy) via Netgalley to followers of my blog, ahead of the June 30th paperback release. I know some of you love to read memoirs as much as I do!

Here is what a few readers have said:

“Even Rain Is Just Water is a thought-provoking, tear-jerking and heart-wrenching memoir depicting the journey of a child as she endures developing tools to escape a stifling home environment. You’ll cheer her on as she approaches each heartache with strength and determination.”

BETTY TUCKER, author of Don’t Worry If the Mule Goes Blind

“WOW! Lynette’s account of rejection, revelation and redemption will evoke a myriad of emotions. Her story will offer hope to many. It’s proof that with faith, strength, courage, and determination you can move forward, no matter what obstacles you may face along the way.”

DONA M. DEANE, author of It’s All Up to You: Strive to Feel Better, Do Better and Live Better

“All through her childhood, Lyn knows that her mothers feels differently about her than she does about Lyn’s sister Ne-Ne. To escape what she does not understand, she embarks on a painful life filled with homelessness and trauma. Redemption will come at a price she cannot imagine. Thoughtfully and sensitively presented.

POLLY KRIZE, Netgalley Reviewer

“Like the flower coming up through the sidewalk, Lyn triumphs again and again.”

CHERILYN CHRISTEN CLOUGH  littleredsurvivor.com

“A remarkable and heart-wrenching accounting of Davis’ … undeniable courage and tolerance for suffering a lifetime of conflict, adversity and emotional abuse…”

D.G. KAYE, author of P.S. I Forgive You: A Broken Legacy and Conflicted Heart

“A courageous voyage of one daughter’s remarkable journey in finding love, security and a place to call home against the demons of her past.”

MARY A PEREZ, author of Running in Hells: A Memoir of Grit and Grace

“This book tells the author’s incredible life story. The author has survived so much abuse, yet still has a strong faith in God. She is inspiring!”

CYNTHIA BAILEY-RUG Cynthiabaileyrug.wordpress.com

“Firstly, I love the title… This is a tale of God, belief and is beautifully told. I would recommend as a book club read as it asks as many questions as it answers.”

TRACY SHEPHARD, Netgalley Reviewer

“Great memoir! And I would highly recommend this book.

  1. Nice of you to offer copies, wish I could take up the offer but, alas, time will not permit. Nevertheless, wish you all the best for the book.

  2. As an early Beta reader for your book, I internalized the rawness in accounts of your experiences as a child. I remember telling you how I could not believe how a child endured, being deprived of a loving mother…I’m still emotional (empath that I am) and know that your book is a game changer and inspirational story for all little girls needing the love of their mama’s. Congratulations for your courage in bringing awareness, Lynette. I know even rain is just water, is going to help others heal!

    1. Thank you Clara for your kind words. That’s my prayer that Even Rain is Just Water helps others to heal.

    1. Awesome! Can you email me at lynettedavisauthor (at) gmail (dot) com. And I’ll send you the link.

  3. I will be happy to be one of your reviewers. However, as I am still in the process of writing my own memoir, I know from experience how very difficult it is to write a book of this nature. Because of this, I chose to buy your Kindle ebook today, instead of accepting your offer of a free download.

I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with reviewers taking you up on your generous offer, and I do intend to make a similar offer when my book is ready to be reviewed. But I just want you to know that to me, your book is well worth the purchase price. ❤ ❤

  4. Congratulation, Lynette! Although I don’t know you personally, I am so proud of what you have accomplished and had the courage to produce. I would love to discuss your process with you when you have time. I will pass on the free-download. A lot of hard work and time goes into writing. I will be purchasing your book when in comes out at the end of June. It is currently on my calendar as a reminder to do so. I prefer the feel of a book oppose to reading it on kindle. Again, congratulations and much support! I can’t wait to read it. 🙂

    1. Thank you Cheryl! Actually, in my opinion, the book will be a much better reading experience. And you are so right, a lot of hard work and TIME goes into writing a book. I appreciate your support. I can’t wait for you to read it too! By the way, I’m available to discuss my process any time. Feel free to email me.

      1. Thank you, Lynette. I will follow up with you. Maybe as a Q & A since I may have tons of questions. 🙂 Blessings!

      2. I love sharing my process-the more the better…

  5. Lynette, do you have a timeframe in which you’d need it read and reviewed? I’d love to do it, but have a few books I’m reading well into August.

    1. Hi Kay. An electronic copy (ePub or Mobi) is only available to the end of June. But if you don’t mind a paperback, September will be fine.

  6. Yay Lynette! Finally, you will be birthing your baby! Huge congrats! Love to have you over to my blog in the summer for a guest feature. 🙂

    1. And I’d love to be a guest on your blog this summer! How’s mid August? Just let me know when, and I’ll be there!

      1. Yes, I have one opening left in August. Just sold it to you! I’m working on my July posts now so when I get there, I’ll make questions for you and be in touch in a few weeks. 🙂

      2. Awesome! I’ll look for your questions in a few weeks. Very much looking forward to the interview! You’ve been there from the very beginning.

      3. Aw, I feel the same way Lynette! ❤

  7. I apologize for losing touch, Lynette. Since I last emailed you, I got caught up with multiple edits on my memoir and I was faced with an extremely heartbreaking situation with my mother. I’m sorry I was unable to be the interviewer for your Reader’s Group guide project.

On a much brighter note, II spotted your stunning book on NetGalley & was so excited for you! Congratulations!

Last week I submitted endorsements for my book to my publisher. I was lucky to receive blurbs from those I admire with all my heart, including Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison, author of “An Unquiet Mind.” Now on to the next phase before the book is published on October 10th.

I wish you all the success in the world with your book!

    Take care,

    Dyane

    1. Oh my goodness! How are you? I certainly understand about getting caught up with the edits of your memoir. The final editing stage of my memoir took forever. I’m sorry to hear about the difficult situation with your mother. Looking forward to reading your memoir this fall!

  8. I meant to answer this a few days ago. The September date is much better.

  9. Great! I’ll get you a copy some time in July. By the way, I’ll be in Jacksonville in July. Maybe I can give it to you in person.
